When People Show You Who They Are, Believe Them

Maya Angelou's words ring with a truth that cuts through the noise. We've seen the actions and heard the rhetoric. The patterns are evident. So, why waste precious energy on endless reactions? It's time to shift our focus. It's time for Civil Rights 2.0.

Civil Rights 2.0 is an evolution of the continued struggle for complete civil rights for Black and Brown people and other marginalized communities in the US. If we didn’t know before, we surely know now that nothing has changed regarding the perceptions of Black people, no matter the number of degrees or jobs we have.

We’ve been here before.  We’ve weathered storms.  We’re resilient.

What is required in this evolution is for us to be intentional in all things.

  • Economic Power: Let's direct our dollars, research corporations, support black-owned businesses, build our economic ecosystems, and divest from systems that don't value us.
  • Political Engagement: Register to vote, educate yourselves and others, hold elected officials accountable, and advocate for policies that uplift our communities.
  •  Community Resilience: Create strong mutual aid networks (e.g., food distribution, disaster relief, community care, etc.) Share resources. Build spaces where we can thrive.

We are not powerless.  Our community is our strength.  This is about building a legacy, not just reacting to a moment. This is about creating a future where our children can thrive.

Call to Action:

  • Join a local organization: Find a group working on issues that matter to you.
  • Support Black-owned businesses: Make conscious consumer choices.
  • Educate yourself: Stay informed about current events and policy changes.
  • Practice self-care: Find moments of joy and peace (mindfulness and meditation, physical activity, rest and relaxation, etc.).
  • Share this message: Spread the word and empower others.

Let's move with intention, strategy, and unwavering belief in our power. We will build our future on our terms.
